Abstract

Diagnostic printing can be effected from a keyboard buffer of an electronic typewriter without requiring any significant machine modification. The diagnostic mode is entered during a power on operation by service personnel in a manner that an operator could not normally accomplish. There are two modes of operation during diagnostic printing: diagnostic entry mode where any character string may be entered and diagnostic printing mode where the character string is repeatedly printer.
