In shared storage systems it is desirable (1) to create a shared storage region between a subset of processors in the system for special communication needs and (2) to partition the storage so that each processor has its own unique storage space and addressability. In addition, it is also useful to allow a service processor for a shared storage system to run concurrently from either its own separate storage or to use a unique partition in the shared storage.
