Abstract

A hydrodynamic electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) cell that is suitable for generating continuous light is shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Glass substrates 10 and 12 are coated with appropriate electrodes 14 and 16, respectively, for example, gold on chromium, that are etched to form a pattern, for example, as shown in Fig. 2. Two dielectric spacers 18 and 20 are positioned to form a channel 22 running the length of the cell and passing between the facing electrodes. The substrates 10 and 12 and the spacers 18 and 20 are fastened in one unit by a bead of adhesive 24, for example, epoxy. Tubes 26 and 28 are slotted and attached to the ends of the cell in a like manner.
