Continuous recording cannot be performed on most unit media dictation recorders, for example, disc dictation recorders, because several seconds are required to change from one disc to another. The present technique overcomes this difficulty with the provision of an electronic buffer for storage of the dictation that occurs during disc changes. The buffer is gradually emptied during dead spaces that occur as the new disc is recorded to make the buffer available for subsequent dictation storage during the following disc change.
