Overcurrent Sensing In Switching Regulator Power Supplies

The dv/dt of an existing capacitor in a switching regulator power supply is sensed and converted into an overcurrent signal when current drawn from the supply reaches a predetermined limit. This provides overcurrent sensing without the use of expensive current sensing transformers, power dissipating resistive elements in the power supply, or resistive elements impairing the regulation capability of the supply.
