Document Interchange Architecture

An architecture which provides a common application-to-application protocol for controlling the movement and processing of information and documents in an electronic system is embodied in a Document Interchange Unit (DIU). A DIU is divided into major fields. The major fields always include a Prefix field and a Command Sequence field, consisting of one or more Commands. A DIU may also include a major field having one or more Data Units and a major field having one or more Document Units.
