Abstract

Many derivatives of TTF (tetrathiofulvalene) are known to form charge transfer complexes, of which a large number show considerable intermolecular interactions. Since TTF is one of the strongest organic donor molecules, it is of interest for the design of charge transfer liquid crystals and of mesomorphic photoconductors to modify the TTF unit in such a way that it can become either smectic or nematic.
