Addressing A Liquid Crystal Cell

This article describes a method of addressing a liquid crystal cell. The cell, which is of known structure, is at the cross point of conventional matrix address lines. As shown in Fig. 1, at each cross point the Y-line is connected to the control electrode 1 of an active device 2, shown as an FET. The X-line is connected to ground through device 2, a storage capacitor 3 and the liquid crystal 4. The state of charge of the capacitor 3 controls the state of polarization of the liquid crystal 4.
