Efficient Task Switching With An Off-Load Processor

One method of increasing the performance of a computing system involves increasing the number of processors performing the work. The usual approach has been to provide multiple processors that are in some sense symmetric, both executing both system and application code. The approach taken here is, by contrast, a decidedly assymetric one. A designated function or functions of the operating system are separated from the remainder of the problem state and system code and are permanently executed (off-loaded) on just one (or some) of the processors.
