Multiple Accessing for Flexible Disk File Stacks

Record storage apparatus employing stacks of co-rotating flexible storage disks are well-known. All of the apparatus provide either for one access or for accessing one disk at a time or, in the alternative, multiple accessors wherein the accessing is dependent, that is, movement of the arms must be coordinated or perturbations in the stability of the rotating disks effectively and momentarily destroy the recording capability of the other accessors in the stack of disks. According to the present article, independent multiple accesses to a stack of flexible disks is provided by accessors A and B. A close-fitting shroud (station- ary) encloses the stack of flexible disks mounted for rotation on the shaft. The shroud tends to localize fluidic disturbances in the stack of disks.
