A decision table is used as a processor input to compile code strings for multiple processor and overlap uniprocessor configurations in a manner which permits the compiled code to be executed in minimal time. Advantageously, the processor creates optimized code strings which satisfy the theory of structured coding, thereby rendering the code easy to read and maintain. In addition, the code is produced by the machine at a rate which is considerably faster and more reliable than can be manually accomplished. The net result is that the total cost of code production and maintenance is significantly reduced.
