A recursive interpreter is described for use in a zero address machine, the implementation effort of which is reduced by supporting two forms of exits to the basic machine language and an exit therefrom back to the zero address machine or high-level language. The interpreter supports the normal complement of data manipulations such as ADD, SUBTRACT, AND, OR, READ, WRITE, CALL, RETURN, etc., together with its escape functions.
