The drawings depict a compact module/machine communicator whose
power distribution and signal communication systems are consistent with the
demands of high performance applications.
Fig. 1 offers an overall view of the communicator, showing its central section
1 with attached signal cables 2 protected by an outer cover 3. A power core 4
projects beyond each end of the central section 1 and carries decoupling
capacitors 5 soldered into cylinders 6 which contact the appropriate internal
planes. Connections with the main power buses (not shown) are made at
recesses 7 which expose the internal planes for secure hookup.
Fig. 2 is a view of a section cut across the communicator showing the parallel
arrangement of power feeder strips 8 separated by spacers 9 and encapsulated
in a molded plastic body 10. Suspended at intervals below the body 10 are power
sockets 11 fabricated from material projecting from the strips 8. Alignment of
power sockets 11 in a single row is accomplished by forming appropriate bends
in the segments 12 which connect them with their strips 8. The occurrence of
sockets 11 at given intervals corresponding to the pitch of module pins (not
shown) is determined by their frequency and spacing on each feeder strip 8,
allowing them to be interleaved into a continuous row.
To either side of the power row are signal rows consisting of signal sockets
13 fabricated with extended tabs 14 to which conductor lines 15 from the signal
cables 2 are terminated. The signal sockets 13 are held in place by the plastic
body 10 into which their tabs 14 are imbedded. The molded body 10 also
provides wire guides 16 along the raised ridges 17 at locations corresponding to
each of the tabs 14, as seen in Fig. 3.
