In a data processing system blocks of data fetched from main storage to an input-output channel may be inspected by circuits for error detection and error correction handling. A problem may arise in respect to detection of an uncorrectable error (UE). In response to a UE a "front end" processor associated with the channel may be equipped to execute a recovery process and communicate status to central processors via interruption. However, during this recovery process other system elements (central processor, other channel processors, etc.) may seek access to the same data. If the error was intermittent, such other elements may perceive the data as "good" data even though the supervisory program intends that in such situations the data reflect any "previous" handling by the channel subprocessor (e.g.
