A hand carrier for magnetic disks is produced utilizing a number of parts from a conventional disk pack. These parts include a base assembly 11, a lock screw assembly 12, a retainer 13 and a top cover 14. In a conventional disk pack, lock screw 12 engages a pin on the disk drive spindle and is arranged so that cover 14 can be removed from the pack only when the pack is threaded onto the spindle and the pack can be removed from the spindle only after cover 14 is replaced on the pack.
