This circuit arrangement enables status circuitry over a single signal line 10
between a local control center and a remote station and reset over the same
single line 10.
A remote status control switch 12 is depressed to actuate a relay 14 and hold
it by the closing of holding contacts 16, leading, through a normally closed reset
switch 18, to the line 10 which terminates at the local control center in an opto-
isolator or opto-coupler device 20. Here the circuit is completed through a light-
emitting diode (LED) 22 and a normally conducting phototransistor 24. Light
from the excited LED 22 impinges on a phototransistor 26 which is energized
through a resistor 28. A DI status terminal 30 then furnishes an indication to the
control center circuit that the status is active.
The phototransistor 24 is normally conducting due to light from a LED 32
which is energized, through a resistor 34, by a low impedance circuit between
control circuit terminal 40 and the power supply. When the remote circuit is to
be reset, the terminal 40 is raised to s level at which the potential across the LED
32 is so low that the phototransistor 24 conducts so lightly that the circuit to the
relay 14 is effectively opened.
At the remote station, this reset action is effected by depressing the reset
