The electrochromic printing technology utilizes the color change occurring when current is forced to pass through a medium containing the molecules of colorless dyes (leucobases). The effect of the electrical current is the creation in the dye molecule of a so-called "chromophoric group" which makes the molecule colored because of the special electron configuration.
