Power and communications cables which attach to data processing equipment are a major coupling path by which common mode electro-magnetic noise can enter or leave the equipment. Common mode noise leaving the data processing equipment is a potential source of interference to communications and other electronic systems, while common mode noise entering the data processing equipment may cause errors or other malfunctions in the equipment.
