This printer comprises a plurality of print wires 10 (Fig. 1) movable longitudinally in print head 12 toward platen 14 and is capable of printing with the ends of wires 10 on a single paper thickness 16 or on multiple paper thicknesses 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d, 16e, 16f and 16g, in all cases with the force by wires 10 being substantially constant and uniform and without any required adjustment of print head 12 toward or away from platen 14. Each of the wires 10 is actuated in its printing action by an electromagnet 18 (Fig. 2). For this constancy of print force, the armature 20 connected with each wire 10 is provided with an effective end 2Oa tapered at 70 degrees which matches the opposite end surface 22a of electromagnet core 22 (Fig. 3).
