Flexible Disk And Self-Adaptive Head Combination

The disk-head combination includes thin, flexible magnetic disk 10 and magnetic head 12 disposed under disk 10 (Fig. 1). The effective face 12A of head 12, which is located immediately beneath disk 10 and in data transferring relationship therewith, is initially spherical. Disk 10 is provided with the usual magnetic recording coating (such as iron or chromium oxide) on its surface in data transferring relationship with head 12 but has an added small amount (about 2 per cent by weight) of chromic oxide abrasive particles in the coating. During ordinary data transferring operation of disk 10 and head 12, head surface 12A is thus worn from its initial spherical shape into a modified spherical shape having a surface portion 12B (Fig. 3) worn to a radius of about twice the radius of the initial surface 12A.
