A mechanism is described for use in data processing multi-task data base operations for detecting the deadlock which occurs when a group of tasks exist wherein each and every task has stopped Processing because it is waiting for a resource to be released by another task in the group. In other words, the waiting pattern forms a closed loop of waiting tasks and since a waiting task cannot release its resource, the loop is stuck or deadlocked.
