Shelf life problems occur with compositions containing powdered alumina and a liquid vehicle comprising ethyl cellulose, butyl CARBITOL* acetate (B.C.A.) and oleoyl sarcosine. The interaction of the alumina causes viscosity increase over time. However, such a viscosity increase does not occur if the B.C.A. is replaced with 2, 2, 4 trimethyl pentanediol 1, 3 monoisobutyrate. This solvent fulfills all requirements in screening paste vehicles, particularly for use on unfired "green" ceramic sheets used for constructing multilayer ceramic structures.
