On a rotatable spindle 1 a number of flexible magnetic disks 2 are arranged. The individual magnetic disks 2 are spaced from each other by spacer disks 3, and can be provided with ventilation holes 4. Each spacer disk 3 is provided with a facet 5 on one or several points of its circumference. Light source 6 and light detector 7 are fixed to the magnetic head and the magnetic head carrier (not shown). From light source 6 light beam 8 is radially directed into the pack, reflected by facet 5, in accordance with arrow 9, and collected by light detector 7. Reflection occurs only at the points where facets 5 are arranged.
