Abstract

When chips are reworked using infrared (IR) techniques, there are sometimes aluminum land failure within metallurgy levels. This is probably due to Al reaction and/or melting caused by high temperature. The rise in temperature may be due to the exclusive absorption of IR radiations longer then 1 micron by the Al lands (the silicon and quartz being transparent to them).
