In a small, multiple work station computer system, it is necessary to be able to accommodate a set of user programs which collectively exceed available main storage. This necessitates a storage management mechanism to control the flow of tasks between disk storage and main storage (MS). The storage management mechanism resides in control storage (CS), and operates to bring new tasks from disk storage into main storage. If there is insufficient room in main storage for the new task, other task(s) are swapped-out.
