The principal problems with the processing of metallographic sections are the high degree of manual skill required of the employees and the large amount of time required to grind and polish the excessive epoxy in the sample mount. The mount described herein provides conical optical indicators that simplify the skills needed to generate the polished surface of the mount that is required to be perpendicular to the main axis of the sample. This mount design also dramatically reduces the surface area of epoxy which commonly is processed along with the desired ample. This reduces the cost of sectioning by reducing processing time.
