Many communication systems, such as serial loop systems, require the ability to switch signals from a receive/transmit to a bypass mode. It is desirable that no active or powered elements be used in the bypass mode since this mode is often entered when a device is either inoperative or not present. This article describes two switching arrangements which are quite suitable for bypass use.
