Fig. 1 illustrates, in a general pictorial form, an electronic funds transfer or credit card system. An electronic credit card 1 to be used in conjunction with a display and data entry terminal 2 connected via a communication link to a central data base or controller 3 is shown. In automated bank terminals and electronic funds transfer functions, a necessary feature is that the credit card or personal identification means be reliable, secure and inexpensive.
