The machine utilizes a diskette 10 of the type disclosed in U. S. Patent 3,668,658 but having a corner notch 10a cut in its outer jacket. A tapered collet 12 is engaged with a rotatable drive spindle 14 by means of a rotatable knob 16 on the top of the machine for driving the magnetic disk 17 of diskette 10. A fixed pin 18 is provided in the machine to be received in notch 10a when diskette 10 is put into place so that knob 16 can be rotated to collet-engaging position without interference with diskette 10, but if an unauthorized diskette without notch 10a is inserted into the machine, knob 16 cannot be rotated to its diskette-engaging position due to interference with the diskette.
