This article describes a means for providing an amplified output from a magnetoresistive (MR) sensor by the use of a second MR stripe adjacent to the drive conductor to the first MR stripe. The amplifier structure can use the same technology steps used to fabricate the first MR sensor and is less subject to noise disturbances associated with the transmission of signals. The second MR stripe provides an amplification of the current through a conductor adjacent thereto. The current through the conductor is a function of the magnetic field sensed by the first MR sensor. Thus, the second MR stripe provides an amplification of the magnetic field sensed by the first MR sensor.
