This dynamic radar data discriminator obtains computer-usable data from radar video signals. Target data is used for collision assessment processing in an onboard computer, such as the IBM Maritime Applications/ Bridge System (MABS). In such a system it is necessary to distinguish target data in radar video with various radar control settings and various sea conditions. Target data is distinguished from noise returns by amplitude and frequency of occurrence of the signal. Radar video is compared to a threshold level and signal crossings are set as target data. The discriminator features (1) dynamic threshold (output of the gated peak integrator), and (2) a hit rate integrator controlling sensitivity of the discriminator. Fig.
