An impact printer comprises a rotatable print drum 10 having parallel type rows 11 on its periphery. Print hammers 12 are aligned with the type rows 11 and selectively actuated to print characters on a document 13 fed between the hammers and the print drum 10. The type rows 11 are separated by circumferential grooves 14 of controlled depth. A document guide structure comprises coplanar guide elements 15 extending from a support block 16 through the grooves 14 in contact with the bottom surface of grooves 14.
