Abstract

This article describes a new algorithm to obtain the partial derivatives of n-dimensional tabular data. While the new algorithm to obtain these partial derivatives has been successfully implemented in ASTAP and the program MACRO, and savings in execution time obtained, it can be applied to any other software package. The article demonstrates how the partial derivatives of y with respect to sc and z, respectively, may be easily obtained by applying the new slope-intercept table search algorithm. The algorithm is developed in the subsequent pages, and a comparison is made of the number of arithmetic operations required by this new algorithm with the best possible situation required, using standard techniques.
