This search box also supports the look-up of an IP.com Digital Signature (also referred to as Fingerprint); enter the 72-, 48-, or 32-character code to retrieve details of the associated file or submission.
Concept Search - What can I type?
For a concept search, you can enter phrases, sentences, or full paragraphs in English. For example, copy and paste the abstract of a patent application or paragraphs from an article.
Concept search eliminates the need for complex Boolean syntax to inform retrieval. Our Semantic Gist engine uses advanced cognitive semantic analysis to extract the meaning of data. This reduces the chances of missing valuable information, that may result from traditional keyword searching.

Causistic Soft Fail System
This circuit arrangement permits nearly normal activity to continue where
otherwise serious stoppage, for example, employee lockout, would occur should
the central processing unit fail.
A conventional card reader 11 is connected by a telephone line 12 to a
control switch 13. When the control switch 13 is in a normal position, as shown,
the card reader 11 is connected to a central processing unit 14 for normal
operation. When the control switch 13 is placed in the off-normal position (the
normally open contacts are closed) the input, voltage, ground, and output lines
are routed to the soft fail circuitry 20. Under this condition activation of the card
reader 11 by a card will pull down the input line from its normal +48-volt logic
level, in accordance with clock and data pulses. The down level on the input line
through the limiting resistor 21 will extinguish the light-emitting diode 22 and
reverse bias the transistor 23 in the optical coupler 24. This will apply a high or
true input through an AND gating circuit 25 to a monostable flip-flop circuit 26,
and another monostable flip-flop circuit 27 will flip to the unstable state for a
period of 10 ms. This 10-ms pulse will advance the counter 28 one step.
Continued clock and data pulses from the card reader 11 will trigger the
monostable flip-flop circuit 26 again and advance the counter 28 until a count of 8
is achieved in the counter 28. At this time the 8 output from the counter will g...
