Rare Earth Additions to Gold Metallurgy for High Current Metallurgy Density Operations

Gold (Au) metallurgy for high current density operations must operate at 1 x 10/7/ A/cm/2/ (worst case) for 50% duty cycle and 5 x 10/7/ A/cm/2/ for 0.5% duty cycle. It is desired that additions of other elements to Au produce minimal increases in resistance because of Joule heating constraints. Addition of rare earth metals to Au conductors increases electromigration lifetime with minimal increase in stripe resistance.
