Radiation Sensitive Toners
A key problem in xerographic equipment is the problem of fixing the toner
once it has been applied to the paper. The prior art teaches various ways of
fixing toners utilizing heat or chemicals.
Printing inks have now been developed which are sensitive to ultraviolet light.
These printing inks are used in conventional printing presses in order to provide
almost instantaneous setting time.
An exaple of an ultraviolet curable polymer for ink is EPOCRYL* resin.
For xerographic application, by the reformulation of present toner and
substitution of an ultraviolet-sensitive polymer for the current polymer base, an
ultraviolet source may be used to "fix" the toner. * Trademark of Shell Chemical
