A target assembly for a deformographic display device comprises a dielectric layer of mica 10 coated with a deformable solid layer 11 of a polymer material, such as Dow Corning Q8-2219. Superimposed on the deformable layer 11 is a thin layer 12 of gold covered by a further thin layer 13 of silver and a protective thin gold layer 14 which acts as a reflector surface for light images to be displayed. The gold, silver, and gold layers 12, 13, and 14, respectively, are sufficiently thin so as to be deformable with layer 11, as a result of deformations caused by charge deposited on the gun side surface 15 of layer 10.
