A portable personal data terminal, referred to herein as a transactor (XATR), has been suggested which is a small device about the size of a personal portable transistor radio having a small numeric keyboard and display unit on the surface thereof, and adapted to receive one or more data storage and transfer cards (DSTC), which card contains a register-like memory element, contained therein, for the storage of financial information relative to an individual. In its original form this card contains available account balance information about the owner of the card, and by inserting two such cards into such a XATR, a cashless transaction could be consummated by debiting one card and crediting another.
