Blank areas in vertical rows of dot matrix printing are eliminated. Usually, in a matrix print head, the dot-forming wires are necessarily separated from each other to prevent friction, wear, etc. A dot matrix printed with a print head of this type has open areas between dots, as in the vertical components of the "H" in Fig. 1a.
