A simple head actuator or transducer support consists of a stainless steel band having one end fixed to a reel and retractable thereover, as shown in Fig. 1. A pinch roller flattens the normally concave band against the reel. Wire leads affixed to the underside of the band enter a groove (not shown) circumferentially disposed on the outer periphery of the reel. A head recess in the reel housing protects the head during periods of non-use.
