A transfer electrographic copier includes a photoconductor drum PC which has a peripheral photoconductive surface for transferring images from input optics to copy sheets transported along a copy sheet path. The machine is timed by an emitter wheel having sync and emit reference magnets for indicating rotational position of PC. The sync magnets are sensed for resetting an emitter counter K, while the emit pulses increment the emitter counter. In the event sync pulses are missed, i.e., those pulses which define image areas on PC, the copier could continue to run, as the emitter counter which controls the copier would merely recycle its count through the count modulus.
