Random Access Memory Addressing Scheme for Keyboard/Display

Character information to be displayed is divided into matrix form and grouped in slices, each slice representing a predetermined linear portion of the character position on the display. The information is loaded into a random-access memory 1, transferred out to a display register 16 and displayed by the register 16 under control of a single address counter 4. The counter 4 is divided into two portions. The slice portion of counter 4 determines the particular character slice that is being addressed, and the character portion of counter 4 determines the particular character that is being addressed in the memory 1.
