The digital division of frequencies by whole numbers is routinely done by many methods including binary counters, decade counters, etc.. The above circuit provides a simple technique for deriving a low frequency clock output from a higher frequency oscillator. The oscillator input need not be an integer multiple of the output, and for this reason, an existing oscillator may often be used.
