Abstract

The bearing 10 is sintered steel with an E-clip groove 12 molded in. The bearing 10 has a radial surface 14 on its exterior and seats in a countersunk hole 16 in the support plate 18. The bearing is retained by a bowed E-ring 20. When seated and retained, the radial surface 14 allows the bearing to swivel in place to seek any center line about its theoretical nominal centering. The bearing 10 is designed such that the distance between the support plate 18 and the outside of the groove 12 necessitates the deformation of the bowed E-ring 20 when installed. The E-ring 20, when mounted, then exerts a side force on the bearing and holds it in place. This force is enough to keep the bearing from rotating when the shaft rotates.
