Bubbles are propagated along paths or retained at positions defined by permalloy patterns on a bubble supporting film. Bubbles are propagated along these paths by the steps of (1) applying a magnetic film in the plane of the film in one direction, (2) rotating the inplane field 360 Degrees or multiples thereof, and (3) removing the inplane field.
