Abstract

A belt type printer comprises a revolving type belt 10 supported on drive pulley 11 and idler pulley 12. Plural print hammers 13 are selectively operated to cause a print medium 14 to impact various type characters on type belt 10. Platen 15 is located behind type belt 10 to limit the displacement of type belt 10 and print medium 14 during the printing operation. Normally, with a stationary platen the impacting of the type characters by hammers 13 induces high stresses on the platen 15, which ultimately results in rapid wearing of the platen as well as the type belt as the belt moves in contact with the platen 15.
