Abstract

In a small, low-cost thermal or other matrix printer 10 (Fig. 1), print head 11 is mounted on L-shaped bracket 12 having an elongated slot 13. Cylindrical pin 14 is attached flexible belt 15 which is trained about pulleys 16. As pulleys 16 rotate, pin 14 carries head 11 back and forth across paper 17. Conventional electronics (not shown) may sense the Position of head 11 in order to time printing operations in either or both of the directions indicated at 18. Any conventional means such as a leaf spring (not shown), may guide or bear against vertical leg 19 of bracket 12 to urge head 11 against paper 17. However other types of positioning means may also be used.
