The above circuit includes an n-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) converter 3, three n-bit latches 4, 5 and 6, and two n-bit magnitude comparators 7 and 8. When the start signal becomes active, the circuit is initialized and timer/counter 9 started. Timer/counter 9 produces a pulse every millisecond for 17 milliseconds. When the sequence of pulses is completed, the value of the ripple can be read from the latch 6.
