A coating of an amorphous silicon-carbon can be applied to a substrate to accomplish a wear-resistant coating. The amorphous silicon-carbon film is applied by a glow discharge, chemical vapor deposition process. The resultant film is hard and readily adheres to a substrate, especially to glass.
