In order to avoid undue strain and annoyance to a user, refreshed CRT displays should neither flicker at the refresh rate nor produce smear or ghosts when the displayed data is moved or changed. It is desirable, therefore, for a CRT phosphor to maintain a high, near constant level of brightness for the duration of the frame time and to decay as rapidly as possible thereafter.
